‘Jenga’ actually means to build in Swahili! 🧱✨

The name Jenga comes from the Swahili word “kujenga,” which means “to build.” The game was created by Leslie Scott, who grew up in East Africa. She based it on a simple wooden block stacking game her family played using local wood pieces.

When she decided to sell it commercially in the early 1980s, she named it Jenga to honor the Swahili language she grew up speaking and the idea of “building” — both the tower and the excitement!
